Soccer, or football as it is called in the rest of the world, is the most popular sport worldwide and is an ideal sport for health, strength and endurance. Soccer is for players of all ages and is said to be especially good for children and youth. According to the United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA), more than 18 million children participate in leagues and programs each year. Today, many children have health issues and risks due to obesity and inactivity. Soccer is a sport that encourages kids to turn off the T.V., get off the couch and get some exercise.
The nature of the game means that players may be sprinting, running fast or slow, and sometimes may be standing around. Play during soccer is continuous, soccer is great for fitness and cardiovascular health. People of various ages and skill levels can participate in soccer, with individuals of various sizes being able to do equally well. Soccer can also be a great sport for kids who may not have high levels of athletic ability, but who would like to participate in team sports.
